There are many ways to improve your vocabulary. I think the absolutely best way is to read books that use vocabulary above your current level. You wouldn't want to jump to college level vocabulary when you are currently at 5th grade, of course. Instead, jump up 3-5 levels above where you test at today. Be sure to stop and look up meanings and pronunciations of words you are unsure of. Jot

Another helpful process is to talk to people who use different vocabulary than you and ask them what something means, if you don't know. And practice using the new words you learn several times a day in your regular conversation and writing. In this case, practice, practice, practice will gain you a lot.
