There are many rites of passage that American teenagers go through. One of the oldest and most interesting is the end of year messages that students write to each other in their yearbooks. The yearbook is a tome that will follow a student, post-school, throughout his life and will create curiosity for children and grandchildren in the future. Because of the longevity of this book, it is important
. for students to closely consider what they write to each other. Writing something crass, silly or unintelligent will create a persona that may live longer than accurate memory. Thus, when future children or grandchildren page through an old dusty yearbook, the only source of personal recollection might be the words one writes in a yearbook. There are usually two angles yearbook signers can take. One is the nostalgic remembrance and the other is the funny anecdotal. Both approaches are acceptable. The writer should consider the owner of the yearbook before writing and decide on the type of character he wants to create for himself. If the signer would like to create a positive and sincere character, he should stick to a nostalgic remembrance of himself and the owner of the yearbook. One approach might include recalling a particularly sad or poignant memory from school and how the writer remembers an interaction with the yearbook owner. For instance, recalling a kind deed witnessed by another and reflecting upon the feelings one had when observing this kind deed will demonstrate the observant nature of the signer and will show him in a positive light. Taking a funny approach is also appropriate, but can be a bit more challenging. Not everyone shares the same sense of humor. What is funny to one person might be the source of embarrassment for another. As long as the signer proceeds with caution, however, he can do much to kindly create his persona far beyond the memory of his classmates. http://www.buzzle.com/articles/things-to-write-in-a-yearbook.html or http://tabstart.com/directory/education/things-to-write-in-yearbook-789
