Curriculum that is centered around a single subject is often considered a thing of necessity though somewhat archaic. It consists of having students in classes for one subject at a time in blocks of time such as Mathematics for 45 minutes, Science for 45 minutes, History for 45 minutes. Two negative claims about the value of this type of setup are: (1) learners spend time remembering what is in
. the text instead of learning to think for themselves, and (2) the information is compartmentalized; where it should be incorporated into other studies. One positive statement is that what the students learn, they learn well. A good powerpoint about this issue is at http://www.authorstream.com/tag/Subject-centered+curriculum.
