Testing as a measure of success in college courses is a necessary but not always pleasant event. A student may perform well on tests and be able to provide the required answers in a way that accurately reflects the knowledge that he has acquired in class. Another student may have difficulty in performing well on tests even though he may have learned the required material and may also know it very
. well. The pressure to measure well on a test may cause one to experience a form of panic that limits his ability to think clearly. This defect tends to have a negative effect on ones test measurement that usually results in a less than desirable grade for the course. Many variations of testing procedures are used throughout the college and university system. The Office of the Provost at the University of Wisconsin has a site at http://www.provost.wisc.edu/assessment/manual/manual2.html that provides extensive information about outcomes assessment. It describes direct indicators of learning as well as indirect indicators, with many sub-topics shown as the contents for each method. One form of a direct indicator is the typical test or examination that is typically constructed by the professor who has taught the course. Some discussion is offered regarding the use of commercially-developed testing instruments. While a student may not be particularly anxious to see a grade that he achieved on a test, he may realize that he will have to see it sooner or later. He may decide for himself if it is better to dread seeing the results and imagine what they may be or to take a look and be sure. Until recently, students at the Calicut University did not have to make that decision, because the results were not available. However, the Students Ideas Updates site at http://studentsidea.blogspot.com/2011/12/calicut-university-results-2011-dec.html provides links where one may find results for tests given in three courses that include M.Com,M.Sc and B.Tech. The University of Calicut site at http://www.universityofcalicut.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=792&Itemid=342 offers information regarding courses and grades. http://www.universityofcalicut.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=792&Itemid=342 or http://studentsidea.blogspot.com/2011/12/calicut-university-results-2011-dec.html
