AP Euro refers to the advanced placement course on European History that is offered by the College Board. The course and the test are offered to high school students each year who are interested in potentially earning college credit while still in high school. Throughout the year, high schools offer advanced instruction to the students in this class in the topics of European history. While some
. schools offer this class every year, others may not. If this is the case, students may be able to undertake an independent study and still take the exam to possibly earn college credit. Near the end of the year, the College Board administers a test that grades students' performances and assigns them a numerical grade between one and five. A score higher than three is considered a passing score, and will likely earn students credit for a college class at many institutions of higher education. Some schools, however, have different criteria for assigning credit, and the credit, if any, is determined by the school the students enter. It is possible that a school may offer credit for scores of four or above only. Also, it is possible for schools to grant less than a full credit, even for the highest AP Euro test score of five. The AP European History course and the exam focus on the history of Europe since 1450. The course should instruct students on the economic, cultural, social and political developments that occurred in modern Europe. The AP European History program is designed to develop students' abilities in writing about history, and the exam contains a substantial essay portion. Other goals of the program include fostering in students the ability to interpret and analyze historical information, helping students to develop an understanding of the main themes of European history and offering students a deeper understanding of the modern world. http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/sub_eurohist.html or http://www.historyteacher.net/APEuroCourse/APEuro_Main_Weblinks_Page.htm
