Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated was founded in 1908 at Howard University. It is the oldest Greek sorority founded by African American women. As of 2011, Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. has over 900 chapters in the United States and other countries. Prospective members can expect to participate in many programs and events that focus on their mission and initiatives.Women typically join Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. during their undergraduate college years, although graduate students can also join.
