Test questions cover a number of skill sets and dozens of hypothetical scenarios in which the candidate is required to analyze the given information and identify the appropriate response or action. Depending upon the exam proctor, online testing is a possible alternative to taking the test at an approved testing location. Many of the ACLS test questions are accompanied by sample readouts of ECGs. The candidate is asked to identify whether or not a particular readout indicates a cardiac abnormality. If so, the candidate must then analyze the ECG readout to ascertain which specific condition is the most probably cause for the irregular reading. Test questions may also require the person who is taking the test to identify the proper course of action or therapeutic approach that is most appropriate for the condition. In other cases, the exam requires the individual to demonstrate his or her knowledge and understanding of common medications that are prescribed in cardiac emergencies.
