ABET stands for Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, and is one ofthe premier accreditation organizations for college and university programs specializing applied science, computer science, engineering, and technology. There are over 3,100 ABET accredited schools around the world. The ABET website has a search feature foraccredited schools which can locate programs based on
. location, subject, institution, and field. Accreditation is a third-party review process for education programs to demonstrate certain standards. It can be institution-wide or program-specific. ABET accreditedschools are programs that fall within standards of customer service, ethics, accountability, and so forth, mostly for the sake of helping potential students find programs of a particular quality. The standards are generally set by the industries for which students are training-for example, companies that hire engineers provide certain guidelines foracceptable engineering educations, and ABET confirms whether or not an institution or program is functioning at that level. Accreditation is not a process of ranking schools, but simply categorizing based on a set of laid-out standards. For more information, please see: http://www.abet.org/
