There are two ways to use this word. As with animals and people. The two being very social in both cases. Animals shows in them running in herds or packs. People it is different. It is a social thing. You will find that most people that are gregarious love to be in crowds ans socialize. You will see them at most all your parties, or putting on their own social events to be around people. You
. can find them buzzing around the room, involved in everyone's conversations. There are some that also seem to know, or feel they seem to know, everything about everyone. They are very outgoing. Comfortable in every situation and with every type of person. But yet, they can very friendly and congenial and seem to bring in a crowd because of this friendliness. It makes me think of a hostess or bartender. You go to the certain place they are in, just to be able to sit and talk to them. They can listen and also carry on a conversation which makes you want to come back.
