Other than honorable discharge, or OTH, is described as being separated from the armed services based upon a pattern of behavior. An OTH discharge may occur if: someone took advantage of their power over others, if they acted in a way that might hurt national security, deliberately hurt the safety of others, if they are caught using illegal drugs, or if a solider is found to be a homosexual.
. An OTH discharge might affect the soldier's future Veterans' benefits. When a OTH is given it is called a involuntary discharge. A commanding officer sends a written notice to the soilder who is to be discharged. The solider can then obtain a lawyer and have their case heard by an administrative discharge board.
