"In Windows 7, changing the default media player is simple. Simply open the Start menu and select Default Programs on the right side of the menu. You have two options from the dialog box that opens: Set your default programs, and Associate a file type or protocol with a program. The former is best for simply changing the default media player for all applicable files and media. Use the latter
. option to specifically assign certain files (e.g. mp3, wma, etc.) to different programs. The process is virtually identical in Windows Vista, but differs in Windows XP. In Windows XP, find one of your music files in Windows Explorer. Right-click on the file and select the option ""Open with. . ."" In the dialogue box, make sure the box is checked that indicates that Windows should always use this program in the future. With that box checked, select the media player that you want to use from now on. If it's not one of the recommended programs listed, you may have to browse for it. If you have different types of musical file formats that you want to use, you may have to do this same process multiple times, but only once for each format."
