Anyone who signs up for the Army's Accident Avoidance Course (AAAC) may expect to find something that is equivalent to a basic defensive driving course. The intent of the web-based course that may be found at https://www.us.army.mil and elsewhere online is to reduce the incidence of automobile accidents and especially the incidence of auto fatalities. It is required training for civilians who
. work for the Army as well as for all military personnel. Contractors or anyone else who drives an Army vehicle have to take the test.An innovative portion of the course asks each student to respond to inquiries about his habits and ways of driving. As a form of risk assessment, it can ascertain aggressive or non-aggressive tendencies. The object of the course is to encourage each person to try to improve his driving habits and become a better driver. One way in which it attempts to do this is by suggesting ways to drive defensively. It introduces alternative actions that one may take to anticipate and subsequently avoid driving accidents. Instructions for taking the test are found at http://www.docstoc.com/docs/39285921/ACCIDENT-AVOIDANCE-COURSE.Each driver must take the course every four years to comply with Army requirements. It is convenient to take the test online because it allows a person to log on as many times as he needs in order to complete the test. The ten modules in the test require a total of four hours to complete as a minimum, but more time may be spent by anyone who needs more time. The last part of the test provides 35 multiple choice questions that are mixed into questions that require a true or false answer. Each test taker must score at least 80% correct answers, or 28 out of the 35 asked. When all requirements have been met, each successful test taker will receive a certificate showing completion of all requirements.
