"ANSI Z358 1 is a standard guide used for meeting the OHSA (Occupations Safety and Health Administration) requirement in safety industry. These guidelines contain provisions for proper selection of design, performance, installation, use and maintainence of various types of emergency equipment. Some of the emergency equipments include: eye washes, showers, drench hoses, etc. The OSHA (Occupational
. Safety and Health Act) was founded in 1970 to assure that workers are supplied with safe and healthy working conditions. The primary regulation of OSHA is contained in 29 CFR 1910.151, and states that:""...where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use.""Some of the general considerations according to ANSI Z358 1 include:1. The emergency units are a form of first aid equipment to be used in the event of an accident.2. Employees must be trained in the location of emergency equipment for emergency response.3. Location of the emergency equipment should be installed within 10 seconds walking time from the location of a hazard.4. The water temperature of the emergency equipment should be moderately warm or lukewarm."
