Giemsa Staining of Cells

Giemsa staining of cells is named after Gustav Giemsa. It is used for the diagnosis of malaria and other parasites. The dye attaches itself to areas of DNA with high amounts of adenine-thymine bonding. Giemsa stain is a differential stain as well and stains different types of cells different colors. It can also be used to visualize chromosomes, histoplasma, and Mast cells.
