Transmission fluid is an important part of your vehicle. This fluid keeps the transmission healthy by lubricating the moving parts. Flushing the transmission fluid is just as important as changing your oil, and is vital to the good health of your vehicle. Having a local auto shop do a flushing for you can be very expensive. To flush a transmission on your own is easier than it might sound.
. Your first step is to check your vehicles owner's manual. More than likely, the manual will advise at what millage you should do a flushing and will also let you know of any cautions or warnings. So you have checked the owner's manual, and everything is ready to go, you will need: a socket wrench, a fluid pan, funnel, transmission fluid (what type and brand should be suggested in the owner's manual), and a rag. You have your tools and you are now ready to " rock n roll" . You're going to slide under your car and find the transmission fluid reservoir. Once you have found the reservoir, you are going to place your fluid ban underneath and with a socket wrench you will open the drain plug. After about 5-7 minutes your fluid should be drained, and you can screw your cap back on, and wipe any extra fluid away with your shop rag. Now you will open your hood and with the funnel in the transmission fluid reservoir, you are going to pour in your transmission fluid. You repeat this process one more time and you are finished.
