1945. The next few decades featured Federated expanding across the nation. The companies it acquired during this time period were Boston Store of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Bullock's, of Los Angeles; Burdines of Miami, Florida; Foley's of Houston, Texas;Gold Circle of Columbus, Ohio; I. Magnin, of San Francisco, California; John Albert Macy Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; MainStreet of Chicago, Illinois; Rike Kumler of Dayton, Ohio; Richway Discount Department Stores of Worthington, Ohio and Sanger Brothers and A. Harris, both of Dallas, Texas (which later merged to form Sanger-Harris). In 1982, Federated also acquired the Twin Fair, Inc. discount store chain based in Buffalo, New York and merged it with Gold Circle stores. In 1983 Federated sold most of its infrastructure to JMB Realty. In order to support its huge retail operations, it then centralized its back-office functions into several large divisions, covering financial services, marketing, merchandising, logistics, and data processing systems. Federated was so huge that it even ran its own private bank, FDS Bank. In 1990, Federated went bankrupt after its hostile takeover of Allied Stores. While emerging from bankruptcy, they managed to take over Macy's in 1994. In 2003, all the names of the non-Macy's stores aside from Bloomingdale's had the Macy's name added to them with a hyphen. This was dropped a few years later to make the stores simply Macy's. In 2005 Federated acquired May department stores for 11 million dollars.
