Fascia board installation is really not hard at all. If you are doing it by yourself, you will need a ladder tall enough to reach over the top of it, because you will be lining the outside edge of the fascia with the top of the rafter. First, you want to determine your overhang on the gable ends. If it the building is going to have vinyl siding, it will be twelve and one half inches past the
. rafter,if it going to brick, it will be sixteen and one half inches. After you have determined this you take a full piece of fascia and mark your overhang measurement and drive a nail just enough so it doesn't fall out when you pull it against the gable rafter. Now set your ladder a little less than half the board length away from the end of the building.(remember it is hanging past so if you don't compensate you will not be able to hold it with one hand while you nail it). Pull the nail tight against the gable rafter and plane the middle rafter to the outside of the fascia and nail it. If you are not using a nail gun you had better mark the rafter at the top of the fascia because it will bounce around while you are driving the nails. Now go to either end of the board, plane them and nail. You can nail it to the rest of the rafters now. Except for the nail on the end, you will repeat this process until you need to measure the last piece. To measure that, you will hook you tape measure on the gable rafter and measure back to the last piece you just hung, add your overhang to itand cut the farthest line. Just repeat the process on the other side and you are through.
