Many states now use an electronic benefits transfer card for delivering food stamps. This method is a huge money saver for states as they don't have to pay postage they do an electronic funds transfer directly into the recipients account. For the person who recieves food stamps it is also a nice benefit as they don't have to wait each month for their food stamps to arrive. The cards act just
. an ATM or debit card from a bank does. When the recipient goes to the store they buy their groceries then swipe the card and enter their PIN. The groceries are deducted from the balance available in their account. The card holder can also call customer service to check their balance at anytime to ensure they have enough before they go shopping. Just as with any other debit card if the card is lost or stolen the recipient can call customer service to get a replacement card or even change their PIN code.
