A very popular shade tree is the 'Crimson King' maple. This tree is actually a cultivar of the Norway maple. This is a fast growing, invasive tree imported from....you guessed it, Norway. This tree also has very attractive purple foliage all season. You can expect this tree to grow to 60' high and 50-60' wide. The roots are all very shallow and will ultimately out compete most plants
. underneath (including grass). It is not recommended that you plant this tree due to its invasive characteristics. It is now taking over native plant species in the wild. For more info on this tree, go here: http://www.maple-trees.com/pages/maple-tree-store/crimson-king-maple.php
