A brag sheet is a document that is written by the student throughout the high school years. These documents should contain all information, activities and achievements that were accomplished outside of the classroom. The brag sheet is attached as a separate document to all college applications. They should be started in the ninth grade year and updated as tasks are accomplished or achievements
. are made. The sheet gives the students an opportunity to showcase things that may set them apart from other applicants and move them up in the admissions process. These documents also serve as points of reference for those individuals who write letters of recommendation for the student. There are seven areas that should be included in the brag sheet. The first is all extracurricular activities that are participated in, even if for only one year. Some examples may include, student government, yearbook, band, music, clubs and organizations. The second area is sports. This should include any organized sport that was participated in, both in or out of school. Next would be summer experiences that are relevant or unique. Some examples of this may include missions trips, summer travel programs (not vacations), summer school at a college that interests the student, sports or summer camps and community service projects. The summer before ninth grade can be included in this section. The next area is any awards or honors the student received. This includes school, regional or national prizes in any subject, sports awards, National Merit Standing and any end-of-year awards. Employment is the next area which would include any paying jobs the student held. Next is hobbies which should be listed from the most important to the student to the least. The last section is any church or community service that the student may have participated in during the four years of high school. These brag sheets are a way for potential colleges to see unique factors and qualities that a student possess.
