Students, from high school to graduate school, can further their education by enrolling in a program to study abroad. Many such programs are available, with a variety of study destinations and subject matters from which to choose. One can choose to simply study abroad for one summer, do an internship or even sign up for a full degree program. For example, a high school student could have the
. opportunity to spend a spring semester in Australia, living with a host family, attending a local high school and at the same time exploring the great Australian Outback or its spectacular rain forests. A business student might decide to enter an internship program in Bordeaux, France, studying Hotel Management. He could gain experience working in the hotel and catering industry, while at the same time learning the French language and gaining first-hand knowledge of French cuisine. A future marine biologist could spend a summer "Sea mester" studying oceanography, marine biology and nautical science in Egypt. He would have the opportunity to sail the world's oceans, while learning real-life skills such as scuba diving, first aid and yachtmaster training. This aspiring marine biologist could instead choose to spend a semester in the Galapagos Islands, studying Biology, Marine Ecology and Sociology. He would take trips to the Amazon Rainforest and study the coasts of Ecuador. Some study programs have prerequisites, such as the student must have taken specific classes previous to enrollment. For example, the program in the Galapagos requires the student to have completed one general Biology course and one Ecology course or Natural Science equivalent. Scholarships and student loans are available to help a struggling student finance a study program abroad. Studying abroad can offer a student a new perspective on world affairs, as well as enhance his education and future career aspects.
