Today's age requires that almost everyone has access to internet. Most business, education and domestic duties take place online so it is very essential to be able to get online. In order to have internet and pictures of cats at your fingertips there are a few steps that must be taken.1. Assuming one does not have internet or access to internet look through the phone book or call local
. cable/satellite TV companies. Almost all of them offer an internet service.
2. Consider what kind of use it will be for. Almost every ISP (Internet Service Provider) will offer different levels of speed for different prices. If it is for menial tasks such as checking email, shopping and browsing the internet then something relatively cheap will work. If it is for high volume downloads and gaming then a faster connection is usually encouraged.
3. Now that an ISP and internet plan has been decided on there are a few more hurdles to jump. Equipment will have to be installed to make everything work. Typically the ISP will send out an employee to the place of residence. Then they will activate the internet through whatever medium chosen (satellite, cable, DSL, etc.). Now the customer is going to need a modem and a wireless router if they choose to use wireless. The modem itself is somewhat of a bridge between the active internet connection and your computer in its simplest terms. The ISP will almost always offer a modem and a wireless router to the customer and it is usually recommended to get it. The alternative it spending quite a bit of money to purchase it on its own.
4. Once a modem and wireless router have been acquired there is one last step. Hooking it all up. Normally an ISP will do this for the customer, but it is always good to know how to hook it up in case something goes wrong or it needs to be moved. The medium on which your internet is activated will plug directly into the modem. If it is cable, then screw the coaxial cable line onto it. If it is a phone line then plug it in. After that an ethernet (CAT 5) cable will need to be plugged into the modem on one end and into the computer which desires internet on the other.
5. If multiple computers need internet or wireless is necessary then a wireless router is also necessary. How it works is instead of plugging the other end of the ethernet cable into the computer it is plugged into the wireless router instead. On a wireless router there are multiple ports for ethernet cables so another one needs to be plugged into the router and into any computer. In the instruction manual for the router there should be an IP address to enter on a browser that is connected to the router so the settings can be accessed. It defaults to 198.168.1.1 in case the IP address cannot be located in the manual. Here settings can be changed and passwords added. Unless the user is fairly confident with altering these settings it is advised to not change these settings unless directed by the manual or ISP to do so.
