To calculate a grade in a class, an individual must first learn of all the scores that factor into the cumulative total. Once all of the scores for assignments, quizzes, exams and participation are accounted for, he or she should divide the scores into respective categories. Most professors and teachers identify their grading rubrics in the class syllabus. For instance, they might value exams
. worth 40 percent of the final grade, while quizzes, assignments and participation each account for 20 percent of the final grade (for a total of 100 percent). Once the individual in question has the relevant information, he or she should weigh the scores according to their relative impact by multiplying by the percentage worth of the total grade. Finally, adding these scores together reveals a total. For instance: (exams) 95*.4 + (quizzes) 85*.2 + (assignments) 95*.2 + (participation) 100*.2 = 94.
