New Netherland Museum - Half Moon

The Half Moon is a full-scale, operating replica of the Dutch ship of exploration that Henry Hudson sailed in 1609. The Half Moon is a traveling museum that conducts programs about the unique history of the Dutch colony called New Netherland.

Recent News
October 2008:
  The Half Moon has just completed the 2008 Masters Voyage of Discovery with students from the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Through October 31st, the ship will be available for tours in Yonkers as part of the Yonkers Half Moon Fest. In November, the Half Moon will move to Newburgh for a final weekend of tours before concluding the 2008 season. Click here to see our event schedule through the end of the year.

Older News, 11/19/07: Archeologists have announced the discovery of the near-intact shipwreck of a 17th-century Dutch ship -- possibly even a jaght -- resting on the bed of the Baltic Sea. Indeed, the researchers believe that this vessel may have been a contemporary of the original Half Moon. Click here for links to articles and video footage.

Interdisciplinary Curricula For Educators:

The New Netherland Museum, in partnership with New York State certified educators, has developed curriculula that integrate history, math, science, and writing, through the Half Moon's voyage. These curricula, for 4th and 7th grades, introduce learning objectives within the framework of the history of New Netherland.
