Ofuna Kannonji Temple

Praying for eternal peace, local volunteers commenced construction of the Ofuna Kannon statue in 1929. It was discontinued prior to World War II in 1934, but was finally completed in 1961 under the sponsorship of a foundation set up for that purpose. The statue is familiar to the local people as it overlooks the town of Ofuna and can be easily seen from a train running nearby. This temple has belonged to the Soto Buddhism sect since 1981.
