Group of Mathematical Physics
The Group of Mathematical Physics of the University of Lisbon is a Research Center of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). It has always been, up to now, a Center of Excellence of this Foundation, i.e. has always obtained the highest classification, awarded periodically by panels of foreign mathematicians. Our basic aim is to develop rigorous mathematical methods motivated by problems in modern Theoretical Physics. This is not only about making rigorous what physicists already know, but about providing them with new tools and ideas inspired by the most recent developments in the Mathematical Sciences.
GFM has been involved in the organization of European Study Groups with Industry in Portugal.
The topics currently developed by the GFM members belong to the following domains:
The GFM welcomes also applications of excellent candidates for PhD and for post-doctoral positions. Those applications can come from Portugal or abroad. They will be considered on a competitive basis and in the limits of the resources made available to the GFM by the Portuguese national Science Foundation.
