What A Weekend!
Peterloon 2008 is completed, and Ft. Hamilton made
a very fine showing. We had the highest number of both youth
and adults attending, and many of the key leadership positions
were filled by Ft. Hamilton Scouters. We had by far the
greatest number of Webelos Scouts, and this will bode well for us
in encouraging these boys to cross over from Packs into Troops as
they have been given a great glimpse into the fun and learning
experiences waiting for them in Boy Scouting.
We had the only Scout Museum on-site, and it was
visited by many Scouts and Scouters from other districts and other
councils. We met other Scouts who attended from all over
Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, and all the way from Florida.
Following is a table showing the attendance from a preliminary
analysis of the registrations. As soon as Council completes
its final actual accounting, we will update this table with those
results.

Miami Univ. BB Scout Event
On September 12-13, Miami University hosted a “Night Under the
Stars” for our Scouts. The Boy Scouts spent the night in
Millett Hall prior to the Charleston Southern football game, and
the Miami men’s basketball team volunteered a portion of their
Saturday morning to serve breakfast and interact with the Boy
Scouts. You may be interested in seeing some
captioned
pictures of players and Scouts from the event. The boys
were very excited to meet the players, and the players had a great
time interacting with the Boy Scouts. Thanks to all the
people at Miami University who helped make this event so
successful and so enjoyable.

Ft. Hamilton Museum – Special Display
Our district historian, Larry Timmer, has obtained an agreement
with the Hamilton Community Foundation to set up our Ft. Hamilton
Scouting History Museum for public viewing in the City's Heritage
Hall Museum. This is the old Hamilton City Bldg. on High St.
just east of the bridge. Use the west side door facing the
river. The times are Fridays 9:00 to 4:00 and Saturdays 9:00
to 2:00.
If you haven't seen Larry's collection of Scout
memorabilia before, it's something special. In addition to
uniforms over the years, boards of hand carved neckerchief slides,
and photographs of many recent and past activities, it includes a
record of our district's history from the time when it was a
separate council before merging into Dan Beard.
You can see the original charter, letters, diaries
of events, and even a picture from the Nov.-Dec. 1989 issue of
Scouter Magazine of Larry dressed in a 1920 uniform and beard and
posing as Dan Beard himself when Dan Beard's statue was
commissioned in Newport. Larry will try to be there himself
every weekend to give talks on the museum, but if you want to go
during the week or want to make sure Larry will be there at any
given time, please contact him in advance at
papawfish@fuse.net or call
him at 513-867-0988.
The display will be there for only a few weeks so
if you as a Scout or Scouter would like to see it yourself or if
you would like to take the Scouts in your unit to see some of our
heritage and give them a better insight as to what Scouting is all
about and how we came to be what we are today, please take
advantage of this rare opportunity.
Thank you, Larry, for all you do for Scouting and
for your many years of dedicated service. |

We've updated two areas of our website to reflect the realignment
of the Ft. Hamilton District. We have posted the changes in
our slate of District Committee positions on our
Contact Us page, and we have revised
the list of Scout Units currently in the district on our
Unit Directory page.
We would like for the leader of each unit to
review the changes in our Unit Directory
and make sure we are showing your unit’s information correctly.
If you find any errors, please email the
Webmaster.
Also, we are still trying to confirm the meeting
location of each unit including the community name and ZIP code
where they meet so we can update our Units
by Location page. If your unit is showing with the wrong
information or if it is not showing at all, please send the
correct information to the
Webmaster. |

Attend Roundtable: Stay Informed!
We will hold Roundtable Meetings the second
Wednesday evening of each month from 7:00 – 9:30 to provide
information, coordination, and training to unit leaders. Check out
the Events Calendar for specific locations
and instructions.

New Training Opportunities Page
We have created a new Youth
Training Opportunities Page for our website where we will post
training opportunities for the youth in our Scouting program.
It will be located as a subset of the
Advancement Page, and you
will be able to navigate to it by clicking on the “Providing
training and advancement opportunities to the youth in our district”
item in the bulleted list of services being offered by the
Advancement Committee.
If you have any training opportunities you would
like to see posted on this new page, send them to our
webmaster along with information on dates, times, locations, any
pre‑requirements, and description of the training. |

Webelos Transition
Council has developed a program to better manage and support the
transition of Webelos Scouts into Boy Scouts. You can view it by
clicking on the
Webelos to Scout Transition Plan (218k PDF).
It's an excellent plan which makes it much easier to manage the
transition process, and it will result in retaining many more of our
Scouts. If you need any help with this program, contact
Charlie Garrison, our Membership Chair, or our District Director,
John Register. |

Adult Knot Awards
If you are interested in how to nominate a Scouter for the Silver
Beaver or the District Award of Merit or if you want to understand
the requirements for any of at least 32 scouting “knot” awards that
you can wear on your uniform, check out our
Adult Awards page. Each picture of a knot on this page is
linked to another page that contains a picture of the actual
medallion the knot represents as well as a detailed description of
the requirements for earning the award. A link to this page is
permanently located on our
Advancement Committee page in the last bullet list item labeled
“Promoting adult awards". |

Yahoo Email Groups
We have established email groups at Yahoogroups.com to enable better
communication throughout the Ft. Hamilton district.
For units, our objective is to have the Cubmaster,
Scoutmaster, or Crew Advisor of each unit join their appropriate
Yahoogroup along with their unit’s Committee Chair and Charter Rep.
as a minimum. Other leaders, volunteers, parents, Boy Scouts,
and Venture Scouts are welcome to join as well so they can be kept
quickly abreast of developing information, ask questions, and access
stored files such as Roundtable handouts, special forms, etc.
All Commissioners should join the Commissioners
Yahoogroup, and all members of the District Committee should join
the District Leaders Yahoogroup.
To join one of our Yahoo groups, send an email message
to Bob Wylly, our Communications Chair, at
bwyllybsa@fuse.net requesting membership in the specific group(s)
you wish to join (Packs, Troops, Crews, Commissioners, District Ldrs.).
Please include the following in your message:
- Your name: ________
- Your unit number: ________
- Your role or position in your unit: _______
- Your phone number(s): ________
You can view our
Yahoogroups Information Page for more information. We
encourage broad participation regardless of your role.

Ft. Hamilton District has been notified we are the
recipient of the
Scouting The Web Award of Excellence for August, 2004!
In the notification from the Award committee, they said: "One of the
best district sites we've ever seen!...It
is very apparent that a lot of work has gone into your site.
Your site is a true asset to the Scouting community with the great
resources and information you provide for Scouts and Scouters.
A link to your site has been placed under our
awards area".
WOW! This came as quite a surprise. A
big Thank You goes out to the Scouting The Web Award Committee for considering us for this honor. In
looking at some of the sites in the awards area above, we are
in the company of some extremely well done web sites around the
