Epidemiology and Population Health Department
(EPHD)
Welcome to the Epidemiology and Population Health Department.
The EPHD provides training in quantitative methods, which can
be used to understand population health needs and the patterns
and etiology of disease as well as to evaluate health interventions
in the community. The department offers courses in methods of
epidemiological surveillance and in methods of research design,
data collection, and analysis. The department also offers courses
in population theory and methods of analysis that examine the
link between health and population concerns.
Degrees and Programs
Graduate and undergraduate students in the Faculty of Health
Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine, and the School of Nursing
may choose from a range of courses including epidemiology, biostatistics,
and population.
The major offerings to health sciences students are in the form
of core, required, and elective courses to graduate students
leading to the Master
of Public Health (MPH) program, the Master
of Science (MS) in Epidemiology program, and the Master
of Science (MS) in Population Health program, in addition
to undergraduate students in health sciences. Members of the
department coordinate and participate in teaching the courses
of the preventive medicine and public health program of the
Faculty of Medicine. Courses in statistics and epidemiology
are also offered to graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine
and to undergraduate students in the School of Nursing.
