The
WTA Leipzig, known as the
Sparkassen Cup from 1995–2003 due to sponsorship reason, was a women's professional
tennis tournament held in
Leipzig,
Germany, on the
WTA Tour from 1990–2003. The event was played on an
indoor carpet surface and was played in
September of all but three years (November: 1997, 1998; October: 2000). It was a Tier III level event for the first three years of its existence, before being elevated to Tier II, and remaining there until its eventual discontinuation.
Steffi Graf, the German tennis legend who won 22 Grand Slam titles, won the first four titles, and completed another tournament win in 1998 to make her the most successful player at the event. Three other players to win multiple singles titles were Anke Huber, Jana Novotná, and Kim Clijsters.
