is the student television station
of The University of Michigan
in Ann Arbor
. It is currently a Sponsored Student Group, and operates on the ninth floor of South Quad (also called Squad) at 600 E Madison.
WOLV is seen on campus on cable channel 55. During the fall and winter semesters, Michigan Channel airs an hour-long block of WOLV programming, nightly from 12 -1AM.
WOLV-TV started during the 1994-1995 academic year, when a couple of students were shocked to learn that the university did not have a student television station. Led by Danny Schwab (President), Scott Doyne (Vice-President), and Jeff Holzhausen (Sports Director), WOLV's main aim was to get the project off the ground. Because WOLV-TV did not have a studio, the main focus of production was airing Michigan Ice Hockey games. In its first year of existence, WOLV-TV earned the outstanding new organization award.
Since the first year, WOLV-TV has made many advances, including a fully-operational studio, industry-quality equipment, and the continuation of production of Michigan Ice Hockey games, along with expansion to other sports, such as women's basketball.
The leaders of WOLV-TV are known as the executive board (EBoard). Though the WOLV-TV Constitution allows for some changes to the makeup of the EBoard, the current positions are:
- General Manager - Kaitlin Urka
- Programming Director - Alex Prasad
- Entertainment Director - Billy Holbert
- News Director - Molly Storey
- Sports Director - Daniel Sass
The programs that air on WOLV-TV are divided into three main categories: Entertainment, News, and Sports.
The Entertainment Buzz
Program featuring Hollywood news, celebrity interviews, movie reviews and more; plus recaps of all the popular television shows, full coverage of awards shows, and celebrity gossip.
Michigan In Motion
Jake Serwer scours the campus and takes a sometimes irreverent look at the unusual, humorous, interesting and often bizarre people and stories that make up the variety of life at UofM. With personal interviews and features, both inside the studio and on location, you'll need to watch Michigan in Motion to keep up with the people and events that keep our Michigan world on the move.
This season Jake will be joined by the lovely and talented Jenny Long, bringing you the latest on the Ann Arbor music scene, and by the highly annoying Matthew Roman (a/k/a "Li'l-Matty R”), as a field correspondent bringing on location interviews and reports. You also will not want to miss Kyle Sullivan, who brings his strange brand of oddness to the studio as Michigan in Motion’s musical director. Michigan In Motion won "best new show" for the 2006-07 season at the second annual "wolvie awards"
