Virginia State Route 9

State Route 9 is a major east-west primary state highway in the Loudoun Valley of Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. Route 9 connects West Virginia Route 9 at Keyes Gap to State Route 7 just west of Leesburg at Clarks Gap. Route 9 passes through the Short Hill Mountain at historic Hillsboro on its route from central Loudoun onward to West Virginia and through to Charles Town and Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Route 9 has been the subject of considerable debate. West Virginia is constructing a four-lane expressway by-pass of the current Route 9 - a winding two-lane rural road - to U.S. Route 340 in Charles Town. The expressway will end at Route 9 at the Virginia state line Upgrading Route 9 in Loudoun County is opposed by local groups that want to preserve the rural feel of Western Loudoun by limiting traffic and thereby also limiting growth. Updating Route 9 is also supported by local groups that want to provide for a safe Route 9.
