Viking Air - 2 reference results

Viking Air Limited is a manufacturer of aircraft parts and systems based in Victoria, British Columbia. It produces components for Bombardier Aerospace, Bell Helicopter Textron, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing. Its primary products are parts for early de Havilland designs including remanufacturing complete aircraft. The firm currently owns the rights to all the original de Havilland Canada designs.

History

The company was established in 1970 as an aircraft modification, sales, and repair facility in Victoria.

Viking acquired the exclusive rights to spare parts manufacturing and distribution for the DHC-2 Beaver and the DHC-3 Single Otter aircraft in 1983. The company subsequently purchased the parts and service business for all the older de Havilland Canada aircraft form Bombardier.

On February 24, 2006, Viking purchased the type certificates from Bombardier Aerospace for all the original De Havilland designs including:

The ownership of the certificates gives Viking the exclusive right to manufacture new aircraft.

On July 17, 2006 at the Farnborough Airshow, Viking announced its intention to offer a Series 400 of the Twin Otter. Restarting the production would be dependent on the ability to raise enough initial orders.

On April 24, 2007 Viking announced that it would be restarting production of the Twin Otter. Deliveries are set to start in 2009, at 3.2 million dollars per plane.
