Student Communities

An idea with the name "myAegean" originated in 2002 with a group of students from the Department of Product & Systems Design Engineering, in Syros. The aim of this initiative, according to the relative website, was to create a network portal for the whole of the Aegean University community by utilising any available technology.

According to the official community website: "myAegean is a student initiative of the University of the Aegean. It has come to act as a springboard for creative collaboration and exchange of ideas, a vehicle which encourage and promote direct, collective and qualitative communication and information exchange, without geographical restrictions".

Local Groups & Collaborations with other Student Groups

As it is also mentioned in several sources as well as on the official community website, "myAegean" acts (in a first level) as a human-based intra-network among the 5 islands where the University of the Aegean is situated. The effort is to make strong relations and connections between the local student teams as well as the rest of the university stuff and local citizens on the islands. The infrastructure gives new needs on organizational techniques and people try to develop events, to communicate and collaborate on two different ways: both locally (on every department-university unit/ island) and globally (as part of the entire University). There are being developed the exact 5 local groups: myAegean Syros members-group, myAegean Lesvos members-group, myAegean Samos members-group, myAegean Chios members-group, myAegean Rhodes members-group. There are several other Groups that collaborate with myAegean and work together to act in all islands/university units. At the present, the below Student teams-groups are part of the network supported with the "myAegean idea": AIESEC Local Group on Aegean Uni (based on Chios island), Student Team of Blood Donation on Aegean Uni (based on Lesvos island), Student Team of Astronomy on Aegean Uni (based on Samos island) and there are more to come, as the discussions continue.

"myAegean" also works (in a second level) and communicates with student groups and other efforts and volunteering groups in order to discover new ways in interaction and information exchange between students, professors, and individuals. There are also a lot of people that use the web portal as a news portal, in a daily basis.
