United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - Cite This SourceThe United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources has jurisdiction over matters related to energy and nuclear waste policy, territorial policy, native Hawaiian matters, and public lands.
Its roots go back to the Committee on Public Lands, created in 1816. This committee was renamed the Committee on Public Lands and Surveys in 1921, and then, upon merger with the Committee on Indian Affairs, the Committee on Territorial and Insular Affairs, the Committee on Mines and Mining, and the Committee on Irrigation and Reclamation in 1946, became the Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs. In 1977, it became the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and Indian Affairs were removed from its jurisdiction into its own committee.

The Committee is chaired by Democrat Jeff Bingaman, of New Mexico, and the Ranking Minority Member is Republican Pete Domenici also of New Mexico. This is the only Senate Committee in which both the present Chairman and Ranking Minority member are from the same state.Subcommittees
