A travel advisory is a public notice issued by a government agency to provide information about the relative safety of traveling to or visiting one or more specific destinations. The purpose is to allow travelers to make an informed decision about a particular travel destination, and to help them prepare adequately for what may be encountered on their trip. Travel issues may include: inclement weather, civil unrest or disease.

Travelers departing from or arriving at the United States should consult the U.S. State Department's U.S. Travel web site at http://travel.state.gov/ for current information about U.S. and world travel requirements and recommended precautions. In addition, the U.S. Transportation Security Agency has devoted a portion of their web site to U.S. travelers: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/index.shtm. This site is particularly helpful for those traveling by commercial airline, as it tracks the various travel security measures that will be imposed on air travelers.
