Tom Spurgeon

Tom Spurgeon is a U.S. writer and editor in the field of comics. He the was an editor of The Comics Journal from 1994 to 1999. He continues to operate the noted comics industry news blog The Comics Reporter which he co-established in 2004.

Overview

From the fall 1994 to spring 1999, Tom Spurgeon was managing and then executive editor of The Comics Journal (issues 172 to 211).

Leaving to pursue freelance opportunities, Spurgeon continued to write for The Comics Journal with a column on mini-comics called "Minimalism" from 2001 to 2004, and later explored corporate superhero comics in the column "Cape Fear". He has also written for Suck.com, The Stranger, and Comicon.com's The Pulse.

With Jordan Raphael he co-wrote the biography Stan Lee and the Rise and Fall of the American Comic Book. He wrote the comic strip Wildwood which was syndicated by King Features from 1999 to 2002.

In 2004, he launched the comics news blog The Comics Reporter with site designer Jordan Raphael.

As of 2006, he currently lives in Silver City, New Mexico.
