Titiyo

Biography
Titiyo is the daughter of Sierra Leonean drummer Amahdu Jah and Swedish painter/textile artist mother, Monika Karlsson (known as Moki Cherry). Her older sister is singer Neneh Cherry and her younger half brother is Eagle-Eye Cherry. Her step-father trumpeter Don Cherry had the family travelling with with him, acquiring an early taste for tour buses and the nomadic lifestyle of working musicians. She grew up in Solna, Sweden.She has a daughter Femi (b 1992) with her ex-boyfriend Magnus Frykberg . Magnus produced her albums.
Musical career
Titiyo discovered her own singing abilities when invited by her older sister to sing with her at a studio in London. Neneh Cherry switched to her stepfather's surname, but Titiyo did not.Jah has recorded backing vocals for a range of Swedish artists, including Army of Lovers and Jakob Hellman.
In 1989, Titiyo released her self-titled debut album. The single "My Body Says Yes" was a hit in North America, and "Man in the Moon" hit the Swedish charts, becoming the first soul hit in Sweden.
In the 1990s, she had 3 more singles that made the UK charts:
- in 1990 "After The Rain" peaked at #60, charted for 3 weeks,
- "Flowers" peaked at #71, charted for 1 week,
- and in 1994 "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" peaked at #45, charted for 2 weeks.
But towards the end of the nineties her success decreased.
Comeback
In 2001 Titiyo made a comeback with her successful album Come Along, spawning the international hit with the same name. The album was co-written by Peter Svensson from The Cardigans and Joakim Berg from the band Kent.The album and its title song made it to #1 in the Swedish charts. In France it made the top 20 and in Germany the top ten. The song "Come Along" made the top 20 (#11) . Come Along was also very successful in Switzerland where it peaked at #25 and stayed on the charts for 14 weeks; while the song peaked at #22 and stayed on the charts for 32 weeks. The second single from the album "1989", peaked on the Swiss charts at #83 and stayed on the charts for 3 weeks.
Titiyo's 2004 best of/greatest hits album includes a few new songs. One of these is Loving Out Of Nothing, which charted in Scandinavia in early 2005 .
Titiyo has been awarded four Swedish Grammis.
Titiyo was cited as the representative of black music in Sweden.
