Strabo ('squinter') was a term given by the Romans to anyone whose eyes were distorted or crooked.

The most famous figure bearing this name is the Greek geographer Strabo. The father of Pompey the Great was called Pompeius Strabo. One native of Sicily, so clear sighted that he could see things at great distance as if they were nearby, was also called 'Strabo'.
