Speaker of the House

- In Britain, the Speaker of the House of Commons is the individual elected to preside over the elected House of Commons.
- As of 2000, this is Michael Martin (Labour), MP for Springburn, Glasgow, who has held the position throughout the whole of the Parliaments of 2001, 2005 and some of 2010.
- In the USA, the Speaker of the House of Representatives presides over the Lower House of Congress, the House of Representatives
- When the 110th Congress was returned, Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, assumed this post. She sits for California's 8th congressional district.
- In Britain it may be erroneously used as "Speaker of the House of Lords" when in fact that title should be Lord Speaker
