Sock-a-Bye Baby is the 66th short subject starring American slapstick comedy team the Three Stooges. The trio made a total of 190 shorts for Columbia Pictures between 1934 and 1959.
Plot
The Stooges awake in the middle of the night to a crying baby left on their doorstep. A letter from the despondent mother (
Julie Gibson) states that baby Jimmie (
Joyce Gardner) has been abandoned. The Stooges react by taking the little guy in, feeding him, and trying their best to act fatherly. For example, the meal they prepare for Jimmie includes
radishes,
celery,
spaghetti and
artichokes,
limburger cheese, and
beer. However, Larry reads in the newspaper about a kidnapped baby and becomes convinced that the baby was left on their doorstep by the kidnappers. The Stooges evacuate their home quickly, with Jimmie in tow. The police do track them down, and the baby is returned to the parents. The Stooges, however, make a conspicuous escape by hiding in large
haystacks.
