He was born about 1565 in Kidderminster in Worcestershire, Christopher Blount was the first son of James Blount, 6th Baron Mountjoy of Newport in Devon and Catherine Leigh. He was a known Catholic, and was married in 1589 to the infamous Lettice Knollys, Countess of Essex and Leicester; she was a daughter of Queen Elizabeth I's cousin and some 25 years his senior. He was Member of Parliament for Staffordshire in the Parliaments of 1593 and 1597, having been elected at the instance of his stepson, the Earl of Essex, who was influential in the county. Sir Christopher was executed for High Treason on Tower Hill, London 18 March 1601, having plotted with Essex to overthrow the Queen.
