"She Will Be Loved" is the third single from the Californian band Maroon 5's 2002 debut album, Songs About Jane. Released in 2004, the single peaked at #5 in the USA becoming Maroon 5's second Top 10 single; it also peaked at #4 in the UK. The song reached #1 in Australia and remained at the top for 5 non-consecutive weeks; it also peaked at #2 in Latin America becoming Maroon 5's second consecutive Top 3. The single is noted for its music video which stars Kelly Preston.

It premiered with a Grammy Award in 2005. The song was inspired by the complicated relation between Maroon 5's vocalist, Adam Levine, and his wife, Jane. The song is one of the band's more melodic-sounding songs, with its instantly-recognisable bassline running parallel to the main textured guitar riff. In some versions of the song, including the UK release, the age of the girl in the lyrics is seventeen instead of eighteen.

When the band was commissioned to perform at the AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony for George Lucas, this song was chosen in tribute to Lucas' children, mainly his oldest daughter.

Music video

The music video for "She Will Be Loved" features a young man (played by lead singer Adam Levine) who falls in love with the mother (played by Kelly Preston) of his girlfriend, who is abused by her husband. (played by Corrine Carrey). Produced by Oil Factory, "She Will Be Loved" was directed by Sophie Muller.

American Idol

Blake Lewis, the runner-up on the sixth season of American Idol, performed the song on the show on May 23, 2007. The original version of the song re-entered Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart at #45 that week. After the finale of Idol, the singer sung the song on various television shows, including The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet (combined with a snippet of U2's "With or Without You"), The Today Show, Live with Regis and Kelly and The Early Show. A remix of this song also appears on the nonprofit collaborative album Rhythms del Mundo, which fuses an all-star cast of Cuban musicians with tracks from US, UK and Irish artists.
