"Shawty" is the first single off of Plies's debut album, The Real Testament. The track features T-Pain and is produced by Drumma Boy and Ensayne. The video premiered on 106 and Park and MTV's Discover & Download. The video features celebrity cameos from Rick Ross, Rich Boy, Edgerrin James and Jevon Kearse. The track samples Earth, Wind & Fire's "Fantasy". "Shawty" is a southern name for "baby". However, according to Plies, this term means "someone of the opposite sex who you have an understanding with".
Chart performance
"Shawty" has thus far peaked at number nine on the
Billboard Hot 100, making the single
Plies' first top ten hit single on the
Billboard Hot 100 as well as
T-Pain's fifth and his first as a featured artist. This is Plies' second most successful single after
Bust It Baby, Pt. 2, and T-Pain's fifth successful single, trailing behind "
I'm Sprung". T-Pain and Plies' new single hit the stores July 11, 2007. "Shawty" is a recent African-American term for "Baby," but has evolved in the urban hip-hop/pop world to be a term for a mutual friend.ex. I'm gonna hook up wit' "my shawty" tonite (for a good time).
