The school's mission statement is "Saginaw High is committed to ensuring a safe and academic environment where the students will become academically proficient, life long learners, and productive citizens."
Saginaw High has been and continues to be a dominant state power in basketball. They defeated the Huskies of Detroit Redford to claim the 2007 Class A state championship. The Trojans then repeated in 2008, beating the Detroit Pershing Doughboys, to capture another Class A state championship title. Before this, Saginaw last won a state championship in 1996.
The Mighty Marching Trojans are a highlight of the school, winning awards from Howard University among others. They march in a traditional African-American university or urban style. One former basketball player from Saginaw High include Anthony Roberson, who is currently a player for the New York Knicks. Another is Darvin Ham who played on the 2004 Detroit Pistons championship team.
