The Railway line between the Greek towns of Kozani and Amyntaio is 59 km length. The construction of the line started on January 1951. It is branch of Thessaloniki - Amyntaio - Florina - Bitola line, which was functioning since 1882. The line passes threw the town of Ptolemaida, and threw the factories which produce electricity from coal (DEI - Greek national electrical company). The final station is in the south of the city of Kozani. The construction of the standard gauge branch line finished on December 1954.

The plan was the railway connection of West Macedonia, Thessaly and Central Greece, but the greek government didn't agree with the Belgian company which had undertaken the project and the works stopped in Kozani. The line between Kozani and Kalampaka in Thessaly (through Grevena) was never constructed, although many greek governments used it in their preelection campaign. In Kozani, a common people phrase for a work that will hardly finished, it's like the train from Kalampaka.

The line Kozani - Amyntaio was unter renovation between 2003 - 2007. On January 22 2007 it re-operated with 3 trains every day, which depart from Kozani and they arrive in Thessaloniki after three hours (instead of four hour before the renovation). (note: the duration of a bus travel between Kozani and Thessaloniki threw Egnatia Motorway is 1.5 hour.)

The construction of the line Kozani - Kalampaka is about to start at the end of 2008.
