Parkstad Limburg is a collaboration between 7 cities (Heerlen, Kerkrade, Landgraaf, Brunssum, Simpelveld, Voerendaal and Onderbanken). They work together to make the facilities, wealth, wellbeing and social coherency for the citizens better. This collaboration started in 1999.
It is located in a part of the Netherlands know as the Oostelijke Mijnstreek (eastern mining district, in contrast to the western mining district (Sittard-Geleen)). This district also includes the city of Nuth.
Bottom use
The name Parkstad, meaning Parkcity, is derived from the relative greenness of the cities, 94,17 km² (53 %) of its area is non-city bottom use. However only 10 % of the area (roughly 17.8 km²) is forest and nature, 42 % (roughly 74.96 km²) is used for agriculture.See also
