Olof Celsius
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - Cite This SourceA botanist, filologist and clergyman, Olof Celsius was a professor at Uppsala University, Sweden. He was born in 1670 and died in 1756. Celsius was a mentor of the botanist and scientist Carolus Linnaeus. Celsius wrote his most famous book on biblical plants, Hierobotanicos, in 1745-47.
Olof Celsius's nephew Anders Celsius was an astronomer who invented a temperature scale where 0 represented the boiling point and 100 the freezing point of water. Linnaeus in 1744 reversed the scale to the Celsius scale we use today (previously known as the centigrade scale).
