It is one of the better planned & posh areas of the city and is home to a wide variety of people from all walks of life.
The eastern part of the area around Tollygunge Circular Road and Mahabirtala is one of the most congested parts of south Kolkata, with offices of large number of transport companies who park their trucks right on the road.

The stretch where once the tracks lay is now the James Long Sarani. This road runs parallel to the Diamond Harbour Road and through New Alipore, Behala and Thakurpukur.
