Nea Moudania

Nea Moudania is the main town of the municipality of Moudania, with a population of 6,475 inhabitants (according to national statistics agency http://www.statistics.gr/StatMenu.asp) Halkidiki's most populous town. The town is located 60 km south of Thessaloniki and is considered to be the financial and commercial centre of the whole prefecture. It was built after 1922 by Asia Minor Greek refugees who gave the settlement the name of their previous city, (now Mudanya, Turkey) hence the word Nea, which means new in Greek. It is also called Moudania, but Moudania is the municipality's name and is the seat of this municipality. Nea Moudania is involved in major cultural and economical activities, since it hosts the only Technical Education Institute in Halkidiki and a harbour which serves as Thessaloniki's adjuvant.

Sports

POM (Panathletic Association of Moudania) is the name of Moudania's sports club, which in football participates in the Forth Division Professional League, while the volleyball team, in the Greek National Second Division.

Other

Nea Moudania has schools, lyceums, gymnasia, banks, a post office and a few squares (plateies).
