Navapur

Navapur is a town of about 30,000 people in the district of Nandurbar, in the state of Maharashtra, India. It and 19 surrounding villages were quarantined in 2006 due to avian influenza.

It is last place of Maharashtra on Maharashtra-Gujrat border.Situated on the national highway no.6. The people can be seen having mixed cultures of Hindu, muslim and adivasi. Some of the languages spoken are Aadivasi, Marathi, Gujrati, Airani and Gujar. This small town in nandurbar district gave two ministers to Republic of India. First is Mr. Manikraoji Gavit he served for continueous seven full five years terms as Member of parliament of India. He holds the office of Minister of State for Home affairs, New Delhi. Second is Mr. Surupsingji Naik. Surupsinghji too served seven full terms as Minister of Environment & Forests for Government of Maharashtra. Both the ministers are proud of Navapur town.

There is an oldest shop in the town named "Gujrat Medical" in Light Bazar of the town. It is serving to the people since 1954. The foundation stone of the medical was laid by Mr. Madhukar M. Chaughule in 1954. Later on the responsibilty of this business has been handed over successfully to their beloved son Mr. Avinash Chaughule. Now the marketing of the business is taken care by their elder grandson Mr. Prasad Chaughule, who is a pharma graduate. The younger grandson Mr. Vivek A. Chaughule is persuing Ph D in Bioprocess Technology at one of the prestigeous institute in the globe namely, Institute of Chemical Technology(formerly UDCT).
